‘I’ve a real soft spot for this beautiful space. It’s where I met talented potters… who gave me a glimpse of what mastering your craft looked like. And they’ve since opened up a new teaching space, that’s like sitting down at a communal table to eat, but with throwing’ sz.ceramics 2021

Crown Works Pottery is based in East London, tucked away in an old Victorian mews near to Bethnal Green and run by potter Giulietta Hextall. The space is a warm and welcoming space, full of soft tones and artists work at varying stages of the making process. It has often been described by students as their ‘happy place’ and their ‘home from home’.

The pottery currently has twenty one potters and artists who regularly teach. Collectively we all aim to fill you with a love of this craft, that we have all fallen for at varying stages of our careers.

The classes come in an array of options, including short taster sessions, beginner and intermediate workshops, five or 6 week sessions and more specialist one off master classes. All classes are taught by professional full time potters or artists.

There are two main teaching rooms, each dedicated to the two main forms of making; throwing on the wheel and handbuilding. Each space has their own dedicated teachers who specialise in that particular discipline and ensures the most skilled teachings for each method. The classes are kept to a limited number of ten people per session, this keeps the classes intimate and allows all students to be given sufficient help in a friendly atmosphere.

The Pottery also has a small selection of full time makers, all creating bespoke ceramics and developing their practices within the members studio. This allows all students to witness a proper working pottery and see a quality of craftsmanship in process to aim for.
