Giulietta Hextall
Giulietta is the Founder of Crown Works Pottery, running it both as a studio for permanent makers, whilst putting on classes for students of all levels.
Giulietta studied English Literature at Newcastle University, then traveled and lived in New York City to study at the International Center of Photography. Here she lived and worked as a photographer, photo editor and assistant to a master black and white printer. Eventually returning to the UK, she specialised in documentary photography, as well as running her own corporate photography company in London for 10 years. In 2013 she took on an MA in Documentary Filmmaking and began making films both for herself and clients. However, during all of this time she always wanted to get her hands back into clay, the material she had fallen in love with at the age of fourteen.
In 2014 she contacted her original pottery teacher, Australian Master Potter Steve Sheridan and he accepted her as an apprentice in Australias Blue Mountains in 2015. Sheridans work and ethos in the studio runnings and his in depth knowledge of the history of ceramics, has had a huge influence on Giulietta. She now specialises in thrown items, both in stoneware and porcelain, whilst developing her own glazes.
She loves to produce tableware because she feels there is a beauty in the fact something that has been hand crafted can be used on a daily basis and handled with appreciation. She also produces larger, more one-off art pieces when time allows.
Bespoke commissions and collaborations are always ongoing, working with a wide range of clients, including interior designers, restaurants and individuals.
She is not currently teaching at Crown Works as she is on maternity leave with her second potential potter!
