Joseph Ludkin
Joseph works from South East London making predominantly functional Ceramic pieces and pots from Stoneware and Earthenware clay. The Craft of making is always at the forefront of what he does, whilst enjoying the physical connection with clay and the well-being that this brings.
He is also very interested in the scientific and technical pursuit that comes with trying to master materials, techniques and processes.
His work explores issues surrounding personal and cultural identity, the borders and boundaries of authenticity and ownership, concepts of cultural appropriation and globalisation and the relationships between 'People' and 'Place'.
Joseph has been exhibited in the United States and widely within the United Kingdom
He is currently represented by The Leach Pottery, Thrown Contemporary , Gallery 57 , The Stratford Gallery and the Clay AKAR gallery. Alongside my Pottery and Ceramics practice work in education; I have worked as a lecturer and tutor at Goldsmiths College, University of London and he also works part time as a Graphic Design and 3D/Ceramics tutor.
