Katie Moore

Katie's love for clay was cultivated through various courses and studio set-ups in London.

She unearthed her preferred way of making in the final months of her Ceramic Masters course in 2020. Working remotely, she began to hand build coiled objects with grogged clay. Coiling as a technique she found incredibly freeing and provided her with time to reflect from her ongoing research.

During the same months, she was revisiting themes explored within her illustration undergrad. Picking up where she left off inspired the development of a unique framework, the framework of the theatre. Katie refers to her clay objects as theatre props which she paints and directs on stage. The stage sets of artist David Hockney inspire her painting process and approaches to installing her work.

She uses a mixture of underglazes and slips to paint the raw earthenware clay which she builds with. Firing to low temperatures means that she achieves vibrancy in her final outputs, colours alike to the bold palette.
